Gobena Coffee is a company started by Steve and Danae after they adopted their daughter, Eva, from Ethiopia. When Eva was an infant she was abandoned in the yard near the home of Gobena and Mulunesh. Gobena, 70 years old at the time, took Eva in to care for her “Because she is God’s soul." He and his wife took care of her until they realized they would not be able to provide for her. They traveled 150 miles to take Eva to a police station and decided to put her up for adoption in an orphanage. Steve and Danae later adopted Eva. when they heard her story they wanted to meet Gobena and Mulunesh. Steve was inspired by Gobena's sense of community and Gobena Coffee was started as a method of benefitting vulnerable children around the world.
